Whitewater Earthenware
At least four pottery works existed from 1845 to 1882 which used local clay. The earthen wares they produced were light and brittle but some were incredibly beautiful - rivaling some of the best Pennsylvania redwares. This gallery includes some of the best examples know from these potteries.
This planter was made in Whitewater, probably by Ohnhaus, It appears that it was made as four separate pieces that were assembled like a wedding cake before firing. The center post is clay and there is no metal rod holding it together.
